    Associate Professor Miranda Van Hooff

As the Research Lead, Military Families, Miranda will be leading the Military Families Research team towards improving the understanding of and treatment of mental health among ex-service personnel and the impact of military service on Families.

Miranda obtained her PhD in medicine (examining the adult mental and physical health outcomes of childhood exposure to the 1983 Ash Wednesday Bushfires) and BA (Hons) Psychology from University of Adelaide.

With a significant research track record over the past 20+ years, Miranda has held several senior roles including the Executive Director Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA) and Director of Research, Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies, University of Adelaide.
She has extensive research knowledge and expertise in veterans’ mental health and family research, having led both the Transition and Well-being Research Programme and the 2010 Mental Health Prevalence and Wellbeing study.

Miranda is the current chair of the South Australian Veteran’s Advisory Council and has extensively supported the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide over the last 3 years as a Member of the Lived Experience and Research Advisory Group.
